
Kota Kinabalu: A technician was fined a total of RM5,800 by the Magistrate’s Court, Wednesday, on two counts of having Syabu and Etizolam.
Lim Tieng Fung, 40, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 1am on Jan 5, this year in a parking lot at Penampang Baru.
On the first count, Lim was fined RM3,000 or eight months jail for having 17.91gm of Syabu.
The charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or jail term of up to five years or both, on conviction.

Read more On the second count, Lim was fined RM2,800 or eight months jail for having 2.16gm of ‘Etizolam’ which is listed under the third schedule (psychotropic substances) of the Poisons Act 1952.
He was charged under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act which is punishable under Section 30(5) of the same Act which provides for a fine or up to RM100,000 or jail term of up to five years or both, on conviction.
Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Lim, requested a lenient sentence because he is single and works as a technician.
In another case, a 37-year-old man was fined RM100 or a day’s jail for fraudulently having RM2,511.12 deposited into his bank account four years ago.
Lee Wai Jack admitted to having the money in his bank account, in which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them in June 2019 here.
Under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, the offence provides a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both on conviction.
