A drunk driver in a Range Rover flipped a Mazda van on a Kajang road, injuring six people including a child.

PETALING JAYA: A 51-year-old man who tested positive for alcohol was arrested in the early hours of this morning after his vehicle lost control and slammed into a van, sending it rolling onto its side and injuring six people — among them a child as young as seven years old.

The collision took place at approximately 1.20am along Jalan Pintasan Kajang-Semenyih in the direction of Kajang, when the suspect’s Range Rover Velar 2.0 suddenly veered out of control and struck the rear of a Mazda E1709 Wagon van.

The impact was severe enough to overturn the van to the left side of the road.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that a breathalyser check on the Range Rover driver returned a positive result for alcohol. Despite the force of the crash, the suspect himself sustained no injuries.

The six casualties — comprising the van driver and five passengers ranging in age from 7 to 51 — were taken to Hospital Kajang and Hospital Serdang for treatment following the incident.

The suspect has been remanded for two days as investigations proceed under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Members of the public with any information related to the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Sarjan Nurul Shaffika Mohd. Shair, at 013-2091766.

AC Naazron took the opportunity to remind all road users to drive responsibly, adhere to traffic regulations at all times, and exercise caution behind the wheel.
