PETALING JAYA: A man is believed to have driven under the influence of alcohol, resulting in his van veering onto the roadside shoulder in an incident that has since gone viral.
A 24-second video of the accident began circulating on Monday night and is believed to have been recorded in Jasin, at a bend after the prison heading towards the Kerayong junction.
The footage shows the man, estimated to be in his 20s or 30s, in a semi-conscious state and smiling after the van he was driving skidded off the road.
It remains unclear whether the incident involved any other vehicles.
“Look at your friend, causing trouble. Driving the van while drunk, moving all over the place. Can strongly smell the alcohol,” said a woman who recorded the video.
Meanwhile, Jasin district police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said investigations are underway following the circulation of the video.
“For your information, the police did not receive any report regarding this incident. However, early this morning, we detected the viral video on Facebook.
“A traffic investigation team and a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit from the Jasin District Police Headquarters were dispatched to the location after viewing the video, but found that both the driver and the vehicle were no longer at the scene,” he said.
He added that further investigations are ongoing and updates will be provided as developments arise.
