
Kota Kinabalu: Two men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday with assaulting a man with an iron rod and a machete.
Jobless Muhd Fitri Sabtuhari, 20, and e-hailing car driver Mohammad Arip, 22, who appeared before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus, pleaded not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Adam Alias with the weapons.
The duo allegedly committed the crime on March 17, this year, at 11pm, on the roadside in front of the Menara Kinabalu here.
The charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine or whipping or with any two of such punishment.
Dzul Elmy fixed May 20 for mention of the case and offered the accused RM1,800 bail in two sureties each.
Earlier, the prosecution proposed bail at RM4,000 for both accused.
Meanwhile, Fitri faced a similar charge in another Magistrate’s Court.
Fitri, who appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, pleaded not guilty to attacking Mohd Amirul, 28, with an iron rod at the same place and time.
The prosecution proposed RM5,000 bail to the accused.
Marilyn set May 21 for mention and released Fitri on RM1,300 bail in two sureties.
Inspectors Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah and Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
