Kota Kinabalu: Two unemployed men were jailed 12 months each by the Magistrate’s Court, Thursday, for having a roll of stolen cable.

Abdul Razak Jaidin, 24, and Datu Abdul Rahman Mohd Ghani, 23, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to keeping the stolen cable belonging to Telekom Malaysia Berhad at 1.45am on April 3, this year at the roadside of Lorong Pungguk, Jalan Teluk Likas here.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that the estimated loss suffered by Telekom was RM3,500.

Both Razak and Rahman, who were unrepresented, requested leniency.

Razak also admitted to the court that he was jailed in 2021 for similar offence.

The court ordered them to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest.

In another case, a 25-year-old man was fined RM3,000 or a month’s jail for running an entertainment centre without a licence, last year.

Idon Balinsong admitted to committing the offence at 12.30am on Jan 7, 2022 at The Rig, Padimas II, Jalan Pintas, Penampang.

The offence under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance 1958 provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or up to one year jail or both, on conviction.

Unrepresented, Idon requested a lower fine.

When asked by the court whether he was the shop owner, Idon replied that his licence was used and that the shop owner, who was present in court, had used his name in which he was paid for a year.

Idon said the shop owner would pay the fine imposed on him by the court.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted.
