MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte holds a wide lead over other potential presidential candidates for the 2028 elections, while Sen. Raffy Tulfo leads a much tighter race for vice president, according to a new survey by Momentum Research.
Duterte was the choice of 44.2 percent of Filipino adults surveyed, giving her a 20.4-percentage-point lead over former vice president and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, who received 23.8 percent. Tulfo ranked third in the presidential preference survey with 12.2 percent.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros placed fourth with 2.4 percent, followed by Sen. Bam Aquino at 2 percent, Sen. Bong Go at 1.8 percent, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan at 1 percent, and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla at 0.5 percent.
Despite Duterte's lead, 10 percent of respondents remained undecided, while another 1.9 percent declined to answer when asked whom they would vote for if the 2028 elections were held today.
Momentum Research noted that Duterte was the only candidate on the presidential list who had declared an intention to seek the presidency. Robredo and Tulfo had publicly ruled out presidential bids, while Hontiveros had said she was seriously considering a run.
Remulla had said he was leaning toward seeking the governorship of Cavite but remained open to a presidential bid. Go and Pangilinan had not expressed interest or an intention to run for president in 2028.
Tulfo leads tighter VP race
The vice presidential preference survey showed a much closer contest, with Tulfo leading at 18.3 percent.
Go followed with 16.2 percent, while Padilla placed third at 13.5 percent. Tulfo's lead was 2.1 percentage points over Go and 4.8 points over Padilla.
Marcoleta and Aquino each received 9.1 percent, while Pangilinan and Hontiveros each registered 8 percent.
Sen. Imee Marcos received 2.8 percent, Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian 2.1 percent, Remulla 1.9 percent, and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon 1.3 percent.
Another 7.2 percent of respondents were undecided about their vice presidential choice, while 2.3 percent declined to answer.
The National Momentum Survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,438 Filipino adults from July 13 to 16. The non-commissioned survey has a national margin of error of ±2.6 percentage points at a 95-percent confidence level.
