In a major infrastructure push aimed at strengthening connectivity around the Dwarka Expressway corridor, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has prepared a comprehensive plan worth nearly Rs 90 crore for the repair and redevelopment of around 50 kilometres of roads linked to the expressway.
The proposed project will focus on improving key master roads connecting the Dwarka Expressway with other parts of Gurugram and National Highway-48 (NH-48), particularly in the rapidly developing new sectors between Sector 81 and 115.
According to officials, several internal and master roads in sectors 99 to 115 have deteriorated significantly due to rising traffic pressure following the opening of the Dwarka Expressway and the rapid expansion of residential societies in the area. Many stretches have been facing issues such as potholes, damaged carriageways, dust pollution and severe waterlogging during the monsoon season.
Under the proposed redevelopment plan, not only will roads be reconstructed and strengthened, but improved drainage systems and street lighting infrastructure will also be installed to enhance commuter convenience and urban infrastructure standards in the developing sectors.
Officials said service roads running parallel to the expressway will also be upgraded to ensure smoother movement for local residents and easier access to highways and adjoining sectors.
“The tender process is expected to begin soon. Construction work will gather pace after the monsoon season to ensure better quality execution,” officials associated with the project said.
The infrastructure upgrade comes at a time when traffic volume in the Dwarka Expressway belt has surged sharply due to the increasing number of residential projects and population growth in the new sectors. Residents have long complained about broken roads, traffic congestion and flooding during rains, making commuting and even pedestrian movement difficult.
Officials believe the project will not only improve connectivity and reduce dust pollution in the area, but it could also trigger further appreciation in property prices across sectors located along the Dwarka Expressway corridor.
Real estate observers said improved civic infrastructure and better road networks are expected to boost investor confidence and increase demand in the emerging residential sectors surrounding the expressway.
