MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is relishing the opportunity to once again play in front of a packed stadium, this time with a strong Filipino presence expected in Toronto.
Fresh from her breakthrough title run at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, Eala said she has been told that another full house awaits her in her next assignment at National Bank Open.
“Yes, I’ve been told that it’s going to be a full house tomorrow. So, I’m really very excited to see, and it’s nice to see that the Filipino community is really showing up and enjoying tennis,” Eala said.
The 21-year-old Filipina hopes the growing support from Filipino fans abroad will not only inspire her but also help promote tennis among the community.
“Hopefully, it will help grow the sport as well and, you know, in the end, give them something, a new experience and a joyful experience,” she added.
