MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala exacted revenge over Maya Joint of Australia in a grueling three-set affair, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, in the 2026 Wimbledon Open at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in England on Thursday night (Manila time).
The Filipina, who previously lost to the Australian in the 2025 Eastbourne Open via a super tiebreak in the final, turned the table this time as, after losing the first set, she dug deep and dominated the match.
Despite the exchange of tiebreaks in the deciding set, Eala did not allow Joint to score after a statement 6-0 finish in the last frame.
Eala will next face the World No.3 and defending champion Iga Swiatek.
