Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala continued her mastery over Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, 6-3, 6-4, to enter the semifinals of the WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open in Washington Saturday morning (Manila time).
Eala displayed her wares and resolve in the second frame when she came back from 0-2 and 1-3 deficits to steal the set and win the match over Svitolina.
World No. 28 Eala put No. 10 Svitolina away with a service hold and a break, as she clearly owned the 20-time champion's number for the second time following her quarterfinals win at the Berlin Open that yielded the same score last month.
Eala now raised her record against top 10 players to 8 wins against 4 losses.
Eala will next face 4-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka in the semifinals on Sunday.
Tournament third seed and world No. 13 Osaka defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in their quarterfinals encounter.
The other semifinals duel is between No. 3 Jessica Pegula and No. 17 Diana Shnaider.
