
Filipino tennis hotshot Alex Eala improved to a career-best No. 25 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour live rankings after reaching the semifinals of the Mubadala D.C. Open in Washington DC Saturday morning (Manila time).
Officially ranked No. 28 entering the 500-tier tournament, Eala defeated world No. 10 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-4, to earn the right to face world No. 13 Naomi Osaka in the final four on Sunday.
Eala's string of three victories in the tournament boosted her total ranking points from 1,666 last week to 1,801.
