Alex Eala of the Philippines will not be meeting Iga Swiatek in the next round of the Miami Open
World No. 3 Swiatek was upset by fellow Pole Magda Linette in their opening face-off in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
In last year’s tournament, Swiatek was eliminated by Eala in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 7-5.
Eala advanced to the round of 32 following a three-set victory over Laura Siegemund of Germany, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday.
Last Jan. 9, Eala defeated Linette at the ASB Classic in New Zealand in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
