FILIPINO tennis ace Alex Eala will team up with men’s world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the US Open mixed doubles set from Aug. 24 to 26 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The US Open announced the initial entry list early Tuesday (Manila time), which includes the tandem of Auger-Aliassime and women’s world No. 28 Eala.
This will be Eala's first mixed doubles participation at the Grand Slam level.
Some of the star-studded teams in the mixed doubles are the pair of Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, the duo of Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, and the tandem of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev.
Auger-Aliassime last saw action in Wimbledon where he reached the quarterfinal round.
The 25-year-old netter will next compete at the ATP 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada.
Meanwhile, Eala became the first Filipino player to reach the Wimbledon fourth round earlier this month.
The 21-year-old Filipina was also scheduled to face Zheng Qinwen in the first round of the WTA 500 Mubadala D.C. Open in Washington early Wednesday morning, Manila time.
After Mubadala, Eala will take her act to the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.
Eala secured a seed and first-round bye in the tournament for staying in the top 32 of the WTA rankings in the seeding cutoff on July 27.
After the official US Open mixed doubles, Eala will compete in the tournament's exhibition mixed doubles dubbed as "Stars of the Open."
Eala will team up with Brazilian star João Fonseca in the exhibition match where they will face the American duo of Iva Jovic and Learner Tien.
