MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala wrapped her Italian Open campaign after a quick exit in the doubles competition with American Hailey Baptiste.
A last minute replacement for Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Leylah Fernandez, Eala and Baptiste fell to the No. 2 seed Czech-American duo of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend the first round, 2-6, 1-6, in Rome Tuesday evening in Manila.
Last Sunday, Eala yielded to world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the singles round of 32 (third round) 4-6, 3-6.
