SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN)-Perikatan Nasional (PN) will form the Negeri Sembilan state government after securing 25 seats in the state election.
BN won 18 seats, while PN secured seven, giving the alliance a two-thirds majority in the 36-seat state assembly.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun announced the results during an official EC press conference at 12.20am today.
Pakatan Harapan (PH), meanwhile, won 11 seats.
The BN-PN coalition's 25-seat tally surpasses the 24 seats required to secure a two-thirds majority in the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly.
Ramlan said the results were based on the tally as of 11.57pm on Aug 1.
The result also saw two major PH heavyweights fall, with DAP secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook losing Chennah to BN-MCA candidate Siow Kong Choon.
Siow secured 5,522 votes against Loke’s 4,413, giving him a majority of 1,109 votes and ending Loke’s 13-year hold on the seat.
Caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun was another major casualty, losing Linggi to BN-Umno candidate Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli in a three-cornered contest that also involved PN-Bersatu candidate Datuk Zamri Md Said. Mohd Faizal defeated Aminuddin by more than 1,600 votes.
PH will now form the opposition bench, with DAP dominating the bloc after winning nine seats – Bahau, Nilai, Lobak, Temiang, Bukit Kepayang, Rahang, Mambau, Seremban Jaya and Lukut.
PKR secured the remaining two PH seats, with Datuk Yew Boon Lye winning Chuah and Datuk Dr G. Rajasekaran taking Sri Tanjung.
The outcome marks a major political shift in Negeri Sembilan, ending PH’s tenure as the state government and giving BN-PN a commanding majority to form the new administration.
