The District and Sessions Judge granted a two-day remand, while ED had sought five more days.

Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora, accused of laundering Rs 100 crore, was produced in a Gurugram court on Saturday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the expiry of his seven-day remand. The District and Sessions Judge granted a two-day remand, while ED had sought five more days.

According to ED, Arora purchased property worth crores of rupees in Gurugram and allegedly engaged in suspicious financial transactions. The investigation has been ongoing for some time. ED claimed that during raids at the minister’s premises, it seized several important documents related to financial transactions and suspicious investments. Arora is being questioned based on these documents.

ED arrested Arora from his Chandigarh residence on May 9. He was first produced before the Gurugram court and remanded to ED custody for seven days. After the remand ended, the agency produced him again on Saturday and sought five more days to investigate the routing of funds through shell companies, the purchase of benami properties, and to interrogate multiple individuals.

During the hearing, defence lawyers opposed ED’s remand application, arguing that Arora had previously cooperated with the investigation and the agency already possessed all the documents. Therefore, custodial interrogation was unnecessary, they contended. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a two-day remand.

Sources said that after securing the two-day remand, the ED team is now questioning the minister about his properties, bank accounts, and suspicious transactions related to money laundering. ED will also question him about the management and investment of funds used to purchase the property in Gurugram.
