The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, Chandigarh, has sent Raghav Goyal and Vikas, alias Vicky Goyal, arrested on the allegation of demanding and accepting Rs 20 lakh on behalf of officials posted in the Punjab Vigilance Bureau to judicial custody.

Both the accused were produced before the CBI court after their three days’ remand ended today.

The court had already sent another accused, Ankit Wadhwa, to judicial custody.

The three accused were arrested in a case registered by the CBI on the basis of a complaint filed by a Punjab State Tax Officer.

The complainant alleged that Vikas and his son Raghav had demanded Rs 20 lakh for securing closure of a complaint pending against him in the office of DG (Vigilance), Punjab. Further, it was alleged that both the accused were acting as intermediaries for senior Vigilance officials, including the Reader to DGP Vigilance, Punjab, and were using their influence to assure the complainant that his matter could be settled.

OP Rana, the reader to DG Vigilance, assured him closure of the complaint once bribery amount was paid.

While seeking the judicial custody, the public prosecutor said that the investigation in the case was under way.

In view of this, the accused be sent to the judicial custody, he said.

After hearing of the arguments, the court sent both Raghav Goyal and Vikas Goyal to judicial custody while observing that there are reasonable grounds to send the accused to judicial custody.
