Fadhlina Sidek denies claims that Irene Sofiya was dragged from the surau

Following the incident, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek has clarified that claims that the late Irene Sofiya was dragged from the prayer hall (surau) to the hall are untrue.

She also urged the public to be cautious before sharing any information.

“I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that some information currently circulating about this case is untrue. For example, there are claims that the victim was dragged from the surau to the hall where the incident took place, as well as claims that the surau’s windows were broken. All of this is untrue.

“We are talking about a child who has passed away, a grieving family, and several underage students who are going through the investigation process. So, let’s not add to their pain with speculation,” she said.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek also said the school has closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, but none were installed at the location where the incident occurred, as reported by Berita Harian.

Unrequited love reportedly among possible motives

Meanwhile, Kosmo! reported that unrequited love was among the possible motives being investigated in connection with Irene Sofiya’s death.

According to the victim’s aunt, Irene Sofiya, better known as Fiya, was not interested in having a boyfriend as she wanted to focus on her studies and her dream of becoming a specialist doctor.

“She was very focused on her studies and wanted to succeed in life. Her dream was to become a doctor like her late mother, and she had even asked what type of doctor would be suitable for her. As far as we know, she was not interested in having a boyfriend while she was still in school,” she said.
