SAR operations for the child fearing to have drowned done by the firemen in a river at Kampung Batu Putih, Kinabatangan.

KINABATANGAN - An eight-year-old boy is feared to have drowned while swimming in a river at Kampung Batu Putih here on Tuesday.

The victim was swimming with his friends in the river around 9am before being reported missing.

Kota Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Nurul Azlan Shah Jamalludin said they received the call regarding the incident at 10.05am.

Five officers rushed to the scene around 30km away from the station.

"The Sabah Operations Movement Centre received an emergency call that an eight year old child was feared to have drowned in the river while swimming.

"The firemen rushed onto the scene to gain further information and perform a search and rescue (SAR) operation," he said when contacted by Sinar on Tuesday.

He added that they will continuously keep the public updated on the matter.
