Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena snatched his second gold medal in the ongoing 2026 pole vault outdoor season.
Obiena ruled the Raiffeisen Austria Open in Eisenstadt, Austria, on Thursday (Manila time), posting his season best outdoor performance by clearing 5.75 meters in the tournament.
He also posted a new meet record, eclipsing the 5.74-meter mark of Austin Miller of the United States in 2024.
“5.75m here at Eisenstadt, for the win and new stadium record. After many, many, many runs and the 3rd attempt made,” Obiena wrote on his socials.
This feat in Austria was a follow up to his gold medal performance at the Czeslaw Cybulski Memorial in Poznan, Poland last Monday, where he cleared 5.72 meters.
In Austria, Obiena easily cleared the 5.45-meter bar but needed three tries to make 5.65 meters.
It also took him three attempts to clear the 5.75-meter mark to secure the gold medal. Owen Heard of Great Britain snatched the silver after losing to Obiena in the countback.
Dan Barta of the Czech Republic bagged the bronze at 5.55 meters.
