MANILA, Philippines — Sen. JV Ejercito called on authorities to ensure fair treatment and due process for Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa following the latter’s wife’s appeal for help, urging them to resolve the situation peacefully.
Ejercito said that Dela Rosa, a former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and his former Senate colleague, deserves the same legal protections as anyone else.
“As much as possible, I hope the situation involving Senator Dela Rosa can be resolved peacefully. After all, he is a former chief of the Philippine National Police. Everyone deserves to be given due process,” Ejercito said in an interview with DWIZ radio on Saturday.
“I hope everything will be handled properly and peacefully. Senator Dela Rosa has also served our country. He was our colleague in the Senate and served as PNP chief,” he added.
Ejercito appealed to all parties concerned to avoid confrontation and work toward a peaceful resolution.
“I am calling on both sides, on everyone, to resolve this peacefully. I hope he will be treated fairly and given due process,” he said.
Asked about Dela Rosa’s wife's appeal for assistance, Ejercito said, “That is what I am also saying. I hope he is given due process and treated fairly."
