Elversberg will start their ever Bundesliga season at home against the 2024 champions Bayer Leverkusen, the clubs and the German Football League (DFL) said on Tuesday.
The match set for August 29 or 30 was revealed two days before the DFL officially publishes its fixtures list for the 2026-27 season.
The announcement was part of a Bundesliga City Challenge in which some fixtures are being leaked in advance.
The dates for the derby matches between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke were released on Monday, and on Wednesday the opponent and venue for the August 28 season-opener of Champions Bayern Munich will be released.
Elversberg's start into the top flight will take place on a construction site as a 5,000-sseat stand won't be completed until the second half of the season. As a result, the dressing rooms are still in containers.
Leverkusen will pose a difficult opponent as Elversberg coach Vincent Wagner said: "It won't be any easier. But that isn't bad. It would be bad not to believe in this team."
Elversberg is the smallest Bundesliga club in history and not even a town in its own right as it is part of the Spiesen-Elversberg community with a population of 13,000.
