Spain left-back Alejandro Grimaldo has joined Atlético Madrid from Bayer Leverkusen, the clubs announced on Tuesday.
Atlético said that Grimaldo has signed a four-year contract until 2030.
According to media reports, the Madrid side agreed to pay around €20 million ($22.8 million) in transfer fees for the 30-year-old, whose Leverkusen contract was until 2027.
Grimaldo joined the Bundesliga side from Portugal's Benfica on a free transfer in 2023 and won a historic unbeaten domestic double with Leverkusen in his first season. He had 30 goals and 45 assists in 145 Leverkusen games.
Currently part of Spain's World Cup squad, Grimaldo has never played in the Spanish top league before.
Leverkusen reportedly have several candidates in mind to replace Grimaldo, including Bayern Munich left-back Raphaël Guerreiro, Arsène Kouassi of FC Lorient and Pep Chavarría at Rayo Vallecano.
