The Estate Wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation carried out an extensive anti-encroachment drive on Saturday along both sides of the road from Novelty Chowk to SSSS Chowk and inside Company Bagh as part of its ongoing campaign to ensure smooth traffic movement and reclaim public spaces.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia, with the support of officials from the Estate Department and the Municipal Corporation police wing.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhatia said Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill had directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards illegal encroachments in the city. He said shopkeepers and vendors had already been issued warnings and given sufficient time to remove encroachments voluntarily.

The civic authorities removed encroachments that were obstructing pedestrian movement and narrowing roads, causing inconvenience to commuters and contributing to traffic congestion in the busy commercial area.

Bhatia said the anti-encroachment campaign would continue in the coming days and that no leniency would be shown towards those occupying public spaces illegally. He added that the Municipal Corporation was committed to improving traffic management and ensuring that roads, footpaths and public areas remained free from unauthorised occupation.

The operation was carried out in the presence of Inspector Aman Sharma, Rajeev Mehta, Pranav Kumar, Sanjay Bawa, officials of the Estate Department and personnel from the Municipal Corporation police wing.
