I never thought I’d say this, but I fully support the idea of banning the sale of vape products in Selangor and in hopes it is enforced throughout the country. I believe that more people would understand the necessity of it in light of the recent events.
Just this past week, scrolling through the news and social media, there were two shocking vape-related incidents that made headlines. A Form Three student was rushed to the hospital after suffering a seizure believed to be caused by vaping. On the very same weekend, a man died in his car after feeling unwell from vaping the night before at a party. These are no longer isolated incidents; rather, they are clear indications that we are unable to stop this expanding issue.
As someone who cares deeply about health, fitness and the people, I find it terrifying how accessible and normalized vaping has become. At bus stops, shopping centers, and often directly outside of campuses and even schools, I witness students vaping in public. Also, just because it is promoted as a "safer alternative" to cigarettes does not imply that it is risk-free. That can be seen by the recent hospitalizations and even deaths.
Suggesting to do awareness is great but when you’re dealing with a product that’s clearly being misused and already harming people, stronger action needs to be taken. This isn’t just about freedom or a stress reliever, it’s about life and death.
So yes, I'm in favor of it because I think it could save needless suffering, not because I wish to dictate how people live their lives. It's worth it, in my opinion, if this action spares even one family or even friend from suffering.
Let's put health before habits. Let's have the courage to adapt, even if it causes discomfort.
