Here’s a thought I’ve been toying with — and perhaps it’s time we made it happen. Is there a market for a book about Kedahans who’ve made their mark?
I believe there is. In fact, I think there’s a need for it.
Kedah has produced an extraordinary range of personalities, past and present. From prime ministers to poets, Olympians to orchard farmers, some have become household names while others remain unsung heroes in their communities.
Yet, where is the collective record of their lives, achievements, struggles, and triumphs?
Too often, our local stories get lost in the margins of history books written elsewhere.
I’m proposing a book — or better yet, a series — of biographical portraits celebrating the sons and daughters of Kedah.
Not just the famous ones whose names we see on street signs and stadiums, but also the quiet achievers who’ve contributed to our state and nation in countless meaningful ways.
This wouldn’t be just a feel-good coffee table book. It would be a contribution to local knowledge, a way to preserve heritage, and a source of pride for future generations.
Schools could use it. Libraries could stock it. Tourists might even pick it up to understand what makes this northern gem of a state so unique.
Now, here’s where you come in. I’m calling on local businesses, corporations, cultural associations, and anyone with a heart for Kedah to step up. Help fund, support, or partner in bringing this project to life.
It’s not just a book — it’s a statement. A testament to resilience, talent, and community spirit.
I’d love to hear from readers too. Who do you think deserves a place in this collection?
Your grandfather who built a school? A neighbour who became a national athlete? Let’s gather these stories before they’re lost.
If we don’t tell our stories, who will? Time to blow our own trumpet, Kedah — and I say it’s about time.
