ERC approves South Cotabato solar project

THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Tuesday said it has approved the application of renewable energy firm Apolaki Seven Inc. to connect its solar project in South Cotabato to the national power grid.

The P274 million project — located in Barangay Magon, Mangilala, and New Cuyapo in the municipality of Tantangan — comprises point-to-point transmission facilities that will connect its 99 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar facilities with a battery energy storage system to the 69-kilovolt (kV) Tacurong substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.

The ERC noted that in its ocular inspection on March 4, construction of the power plant was already in progress even before approval.

All generation companies and grid users with such projects must obtain authority before proceeding with construction, the ERC said. This is to ensure coordinated system planning, and maintaining the integrity and security of the electricity grid, while preventing unchecked increase of unauthorized facilities that may compromise the reliability of the system.
