ERC approves grid connection of Negros solar project

THE application of Visayas-based company Puente Al Sol Inc. to connect its Negros solar power project to the national grid has been approved, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said on Sunday.

Puente Al Sol will develop its own point-to-point transmission facilities to connect its 96-megawatt alternating current solar project in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, to National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ (NGCP) 138-kilovolt (kV) Cadiz substation.

The facilities comprise two 90 megavolt-amperes takeoff substations, equipped with protection and telecommunications systems, and a 3.5 kilometer, 138-kV double-circuit transmission line.

Estimated cost of the project is P303.2 million and is 82.31 percent complete, prompting the ERC to again admonish all power generation companies and grid users to obtain prior authority before proceeding with development and construction.

This is to ensure coordinated system planning, and maintaining the integrity and security of the overall electricity grid, while preventing unchecked increase of unauthorized facilities that may compromise system reliability.

The solar plant’s output is subject to curtailment and dispatch prioritization until the NGCP completes development of transmission infrastructure in nearby areas, the ERC said.
