THE Yuchengco Group’s Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) on Monday said it has started the testing and commissioning of its 250-megawatt direct current Bugallon solar power project in Pangasinan.
RGEC is a joint venture between PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and Japan’s Taisei Corp.
PGEC is the renewable energy arm of PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC).
“Coordination with officials of the Department of Energy (DOE), the Independent Energy Market Operator of the Philippines and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) led to the approval of critical permits such as Wholesale Electricity Spot Market registration, Provisional Certificate of Approval to Connect and the energization approval as generator,” said Dave Gadiano, PGEC assistant vice president for power markets.
“Our solar facility’s milestone also meets the administration’s urgent imperative to bring more indigenous and renewable energy capacity on-line especially during this period of energy supply instability,” Gadiano added.
Registered under Bugallon Green Energy Corp., the facility is part of a portfolio of four utility-scale projects which includes the Limbauan (in Isabela), Dagohoy (Bohol) and San Jose (Nueva Ecija) solar plants.
After the commissioning tests with National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, the solar project will operate under a fixed 20-year term as a Green Energy Auction-2 facility.
Meanwhile, PGEC said that its 13.2-megawatt Nabas-2 wind power project in Aklan has received its Final Certificate of Approval to Connect to the NGCP.
The approval is a step closer to the project’s Certificate of Compliance to be issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission, after which it can start operations under the Green Energy Auction-1 program.
“Our wind facility’s impending commercial operation not only takes advantage of the DOE’s and NGCP’s ongoing reinforcement of the Boracay-Caticlan-Nabas transmission line, but also helps ensure that tourism and business establishments in Boracay and Aklan will be able to get more clean power,” Gadiano said.
PERC’s Monday share price marginally gained P0.03 to close at P3.62.
