To curb the production and sale of illicit liquor ahead of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat elections on May 26, the Excise Department destroyed nearly 3,000 litres of lahan during a raid in Toti village under Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision.
District Excise Officer, Kapurthala, Sukhjit Singh Chahal, said officials conducted the raid on May 23 and recovered around 3,000 litres of lahan stored in drums. The material was destroyed on the spot. The team also recovered 50 litres of lahan from the house of Jasvir Singh, son of Gobind Singh, a resident of Toti village in Kapurthala district. Police registered an FIR against the accused, who is absconding.
