Bruno Fernandes Makes Honest Admission on Manchester United Captaincy and Says He Will Accept Any Decision
Manchester United found a way back into the game at St James’ Park when Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro combined for the equaliser.
Casemiro’s header, set up by Fernandes, marked his sixth goal of the campaign, although it wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat. It was also the fourth time this season that Bruno has assisted Casemiro in the league.
The United skipper now has 14 assists for the season, just six short of matching the single-season record held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
The midfield pairing has been one of few bright spots in what’s been a tough season for United. Both players have stayed fit and reliable, providing some stability amid all of Erik ten Hag’s injury headaches.
Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro Are the Most Productive Duo in the Premier League
With their long-standing roles at United, Fernandes and Casemiro are proving that leadership isn’t just about words but actions on the pitch. This partnership was clear again when Casemiro equalised, with Fernandes supplying a precise cross for his fourth assist to the Brazilian this season.
According to Statman Dave, no pair has combined for more goals in the Premier League this season than these two. It’s an impressive record, considering some of the partnerships United fans have seen over the years.
The club has had their share of famous duos—think Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke or Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. Now, it’s Fernandes and Casemiro stepping into that role, regularly contributing goals for United.

Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro were close to leaving Man Utd last year
It’s easy to forget that not long ago, both players were on the verge of leaving the club. Less than a year ago, rumours started swirling around that Fernandes was considering a move to Saudi Arabia.
Fernandes ultimately turned down the move, which appears to have been the right call in hindsight. But at the time, he didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration, admitting he felt unwanted by some within the club’s hierarchy.
That same summer, Casemiro was also linked with a departure as he entered the final year of his contract. There wasn’t much movement then, but it became clear over time that an exit was inevitable.
The Brazilian midfielder confirmed earlier this season that he would leave once his contract ran out. Now it looks like Ineos will be pleased they held onto him for one more campaign, especially with how well he has performed this season.
