Fahmi: Postal medicine delivery to be free starting 1 October

Starting 1 October 2026, patients who opt to have their medicines delivered by post will no longer have to pay for the service. The government will fully cover the delivery costs under the Postal Medicine Delivery Programme (UMP), with around RM5 million allocated for the programme.

The programme is a collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Health Ministry (MOH) and is expected to benefit around 80,000 patients each month nationwide.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced the move after visiting the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Driver (Persada) project at the Padang Besar Health Clinic on Saturday.

The plan was first announced in June, when Fahmi said the government was hoping to roll it out nationwide by July. Under the arrangement, MOH determines which patients are eligible, while Pos Malaysia handles the deliveries.

For those unfamiliar, the Postal Medicine Delivery Programme has been around for more than a decade. It allows patients to have their follow-up medicine supplies delivered directly to their homes instead of having to collect them from the pharmacy counter.
