BAHAU - Pakatan Harapan (PH) Communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged voters to remain cautious against misinformation and unverified content circulating online as the Negeri Sembilan election campaign enters its final hours.
Speaking at the Ceramah Perdana Grand Finale at Pekan Rompin, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, Fahmi said voters should verify information received through platforms such as WhatsApp and TikTok before sharing them, warning that some content could be misleading or taken out of context.
He said the final hours before polling day were crucial, with social media platforms becoming a space where false information and attacks through fake accounts could spread quickly.
“Sometimes the information we receive comes in the form of videos that are only half complete. There is no context, no full story, and we may be influenced, deceived and carried away by fake news,” he said.
Fahmi urged voters to refer to credible news organisations and official sources to verify information before believing or sharing claims online.
He said voters should also report suspicious content to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) so that action could be taken against those spreading false information.
“If the information we receive, especially through WhatsApp, does not match reports from official news portals, be cautious and make a report to MCMC so we can determine whether the information is genuine or not,” he said.
Fahmi also reminded social media users that spreading false information during the election period could result in action being taken by platforms and relevant authorities.
He called on voters to focus on facts and maintain a healthy political discourse as they make their choice on polling day.
