A FAMILY of five faced a frightening ordeal last night when their Proton Waja caught fire in Kampung Pahi, directly opposite Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai.
Senior Fire Officer Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa of the Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station said the emergency call was received at 10.48 p.m., prompting six personnel, including officers, to rush to the scene. Upon arrival, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
He recounted that the driver first noticed smoke emerging from the front bonnet and immediately pulled over to the roadside.
“In the panic, they quickly removed all belongings, including luggage bags,” he said.
The family, travelling from Nilai to Kok Lanas for Aidilfitri celebrations, escaped without injury. “They survived and were unharmed,” Nik Ahmad Afsham confirmed.
Firefighters declared the scene safe at 11.33 p.m., ending the operation. Investigations are ongoing, with forensic teams working to determine the precise cause of the blaze.
The Kuala Krai Rescue Squad also assisted by escorting the five family members safely to Kok Lanas following the incident. - March 19, 2026
