A family in Pahang recently captured nationwide attention after a video of them stopping the Sultan of Pahang’s convoy went viral on TikTok.

The family reportedly approached the royal convoy to seek help with a long-standing issue: their home had allegedly been without electricity for the past 13 years.

Desperate plea to royalty goes viral

In the viral video, after learning that the Pahang Ruler, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, would be passing through the area, the family waited by the roadside holding a placard that read, “Ampun Tuanku, Mohon Berhenti Kejap” (Pardon me, Your Royal Highness, please stop for a moment). When the royal convoy approached, they seized the opportunity to personally share the hardships they had endured after years of allegedly unanswered applications and requests for an electricity supply.

According to the man, Muhammad Ramadhan, the matter received immediate attention from the Sultan of Pahang following the brief interaction. Ramadhan claimed that the application for the electricity supply was approved on the same day the matter was brought directly to the Ruler’s attention.

TNB clarifies the timeline of the application

In a statement, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) noted that it had taken heed of the viral issue involving the family’s request for an electricity connection. According to the utility company, the application was received through a contractor at the end of December last year.

“TNB submitted an application to the relevant authorities in January to enable the pole installation works to be carried out. The implementation of works at the location is also subject to approvals from the relevant parties, including safety and technical requirements, as well as compliance with land status and right-of-way permissions,” the statement read.

Following the latest developments, TNB was granted permission to proceed with the pole installation works on 17 May. The electricity connection works are scheduled to commence shortly thereafter.

TNB also reaffirmed its commitment as the national utility company to continue working closely with all relevant parties to ensure similar cases can be handled in a more organised and inclusive manner in the future.

“Please don’t blame anyone”

In a recent TikTok post, Ramadhan urged the public not to point fingers at any party.

“Please don’t blame anyone. We really did live without electricity for 13 years, but we only officially applied for it in 2025 and handled the process ourselves by repeatedly going back and forth,” he said.

Ramadhan also expressed his gratitude after the Pahang Sultan issued a decree that brought hope to his family.

“And we only shared the post out of happiness and gratitude for Tuanku’s decree. Forgive us, Tuanku,” he added.

He also thanked TNB for finally fulfilling his family’s long-awaited dream of receiving an electricity supply after years of waiting.
