In a crackdown on illegal mining, the Faridabad police arrested six persons for allegedly stealing sand from the Yamuna riverbed and seized seven bullock carts loaded with illegally extracted sand in the Tigaon area.
The action was carried out on May 18 by the ERV-211 police team under the jurisdiction of the Tigaon police station following a tip-off about the illegal transportation of Yamuna sand using bullock carts.
According to a police spokesperson, the team intercepted the accused on the Majhawali-Tigaon road during a patrol. The arrested men were identified as Jitender alias Bittu, Virender alias Leele, Deepak, and Deshraj alias Desi, all residents of Tigaon village, along with Rohit alias Sonu of Buapur village and Billu of Majhawali village.
The police said all six were allegedly engaged in illegal sand mining and were caught while transporting stolen Yamuna sand in bullock carts.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that they had extracted the sand from the Garhi Ghat area along the Yamuna river in the Majhawali belt. The stolen sand was allegedly being sold in nearby villages for profit.
A case has been registered against the accused at the Tigaon police station under relevant sections of the law related to illegal mining and theft.
Police also seized seven bullock carts loaded with Yamuna sand from the spot. Officials said further investigation is underway to identify others linked to the illegal mining network operating in the riverine belt.
