Panic gripped Sukhanand village, the native village of AAP MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand in Moga district, after a fatal shooting left one person dead.

The deceased was identified as Jaskaran Singh, alias Gaggu, a resident of Cheeda village. According to police sources, Jaskaran sustained critical gunshot injuries during the altercation. He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

After receiving information about the shooting, a police team led by Baghapurana Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jasbinder Singh Khaira rushed to the scene.

DSP Khaira said the alleged shooter was identified during the initial investigation.

“Preliminary investigations have identified the shooter as Amandeep Singh. The accused has a prior criminal record and is already facing multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” Khaira said.

He said the incident appeared to be the result of a long-standing personal enmity between the victim and the accused.

AAP MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand said the police had registered a case and launched a massive manhunt to arrest the accused.

“We have formed multiple specialised police teams to conduct raids at suspected hideouts. The accused is on the run, but we are tracking his whereabouts and he will be behind bars very soon,” DSP Khaira said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway.
