- Two masked intruders forced entry into the house on Station Road just before 12.30am on Thursday before carrying out the assault.
- The boy's mother sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder during the incident, while three other children in the home were unharmed.
- Armed police officers were dispatched to the address, but the perpetrators had already fled the scene before they arrived.
- Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit believe the attack was unprovoked and have appealed for witnesses, CCTV, or dashcam footage.
