BENTONG: A 19-year-old female student was killed after being thrown from her vehicle in a three-vehicle collision.
The crash occurred at kilometre 19.4 of the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) heading towards Raub at about 7.20 pm yesterday.
Bentong police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the accident happened during rainy conditions and involved a Toyota Yaris, a Toyota Alphard and a Ford Ranger.
Initial investigations found the Toyota Yaris, driven by a 20-year-old foreign national, was believed to have lost control while travelling from Kuala Lumpur towards Raub.
The vehicle skidded into a roadside drain with student Puteri Nursyakirah Suzaimi as a passenger.
“Puteri Nursyakirah was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries, while the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bentong Hospital for treatment,” Zaiham said in a statement today.
He confirmed both victims were students of an institution of higher learning.
A Toyota Alphard and a Ford Ranger travelling in the same direction were also believed to have lost control.
The Toyota Alphard reportedly skidded and collided with the Toyota Yaris, while the Ford Ranger veered into a concrete drain about 30 metres from the scene.
“The driver and three passengers of the Toyota Alphard, including a one-year-old baby girl, suffered only minor injuries,” he added.
The driver and four passengers of the Ford Ranger, aged between three and 23, also sustained minor injuries.
Zaiham said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
