FEU vows solid UAAP Season 89 opening ceremony

MANILA, Philippines — University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 89 host Far Eastern University (FEU) will put up a solid opening ceremony.

FEU Athletic Director Mark Molina and UAAP Season 89 president said that his school won't simply be outshined by the outstanding opening ceremony put up by last year's host University of Santo Tomas.

The theme for this season is "For Everyone UAAP".

"We were pressured by UST last year," said Molina in the league's kickstart press conference at Novotel Manila Quezon City Tuesday.

"You know what UST did last year? You guys put on a fantastic event, award-winning, credit to Father Rodel (Cansancio) and the entire UST community but FEU won't be outshined, the Tamaraws won't be outshined."

Host and actor "Vice Ganda" as well as rapper "Gloc-9", two of FEU's prominent alumni in the entertainment industry, are set to take center stage in the opening at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, September 12.

"We will have a great show on Saturday at 5 p.m. at MOA Arena. The athletes who are going to parade, they're going to have a lot of fun. That's going to be for sure," said Molina.

"There's going to be a party, Vice Ganda will be there and Gloc-9 will be there, and many more. Many surprises. We will reveal them on Saturday. So if you don't have a ticket yet, make sure to get one."

Molina said it's going to be a party.

"This is for UAAP. This is for everybody. This will be a celebration of the UAAP culture. All these schools will be celebrated. But I'm very sure we will all have a blast because it's going to be a party."

After Saturday's opening ceremony, men's basketball games follow the next day.

FEU faces Adamson University at 12 p.m., as defending champ De La Salle University takes on National University at 2:30 p.m.

Ticketed separately is the battle between UST and the University of the Philippines at 6 p.m.
