CONVERGE guns for its second straight win against Terrafirma as the two squads collide in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The FiberXers got off to a strong start for the conference after tearing apart the import-less Titan Ultra Giant Risers last Sunday, 105-74 in their Group A battle.
The FiberXers and the Dyip go up against each other’s throats at 5:15 p.m.
“We are more eager to redeem ourselves because we have a disappointing performance last conference,” Converge big man Justin Arana said in Tagalog, referring to the team’s mediocre 5-7 card to finish just ninth overall in the Commissioner’s Cup.
On the other hand, the Dyip are out to recover from a 101-100 cliffhanging defeat from the NLEX Road Warriors last Sunday.
Terrafirma dropped to 1-1, its first victory courtesy of its 113-100 win against Titan Ultra.
In the second game at 7:30 p.m., Meralco makes its conference debut as it faces opening day winner Phoenix.
The Bolts are bringing in Jordan Varnado as their import, the same guy who reinforced the team in the in the Basketball Champions League Asia, where the Meralco franchise saw its title run come to an end with a quarterfinal loss to Mongolian squad Ulaanbaatar Xac.
Varnado, the former Troy University standout averaged 19.7 points, 10.0 boards, and 3.3 assists for the Bolts in the tournament held last year in Dubai.
The 29-year-old Varnado will be making his PBA debut with the Bolts hoping that the American forward can help the team contend for the championship.
Varnado is fresh off a recent stint with Bnei Hertzeliya in Israel where he normed 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19 games.
The Bolts will be facing the Fuel Masters side that kicked off the tournament with a 98-86 stunning win against the Magnolia Hotshots.
The win was stunning considering that Phoenix erased a 16-point deficit behind a second half surge to beat the LA Tenorio-mentored Magnolia.
Meralco will have to contend with Phoenix import BJ Johnson, who had an impressive debut, finishing with 34 points and 10 rebounds, while leading the Fuel Masters’ massive comeback.
