BJP mayoral candidate Sham Lal Bansal and 17 ward candidates swept the Panchkula Municipal Corporation election in a one-sided win on Wednesday.

Two independent candidates and one Congress candidate rounded off the tally.

BJP mayoral candidate Sham Lal Bansal registered a thumping win over Sudha Bhardwaj of Congress by 35,735 votes. Bansal polled 66,593 votes in comparison to 30,856 votes polled by Bhardwaj.

Congress candidate Sudha Bhardwaj alleged “vote chori" and came out of counting centre even as the counting was underway.

Coming out of the counting centre, Bhardwaj and her supporters said, “We will sit and take a decision what to do next".

A day earlier Bhardwaj and other candidates had alleged that the CCTV surveillance of the strong room housing the EVM had collapsed for 1 hour 50 minutes in the morning.

Among notable winners was ward six candidate Parth Gupta, grandson of former Haryana assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta, who registered a win on his political debut.
