TWO-TIME world titlist Annie Ramirez struck gold at the just-concluded 10th Jiu-Jitsu Asian Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Jiu-Jitsu Philippines announced on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Ramirez ruled the adults jiu-jitsu female -57kg, adding another title to her name.
She led five Filipino medalists in the tournament. Joanne Pauline Tan bagged the silver in the adults jiu-jitsu female -70kg, while Dylan Chrystle Reign Valmores took the bronze in adults jiu-jitsu female +70kg.
Eliecha Zoe Malilay and Emily Rosalynn Thomas also had bronze finishes in the adults jiu-jitsu female -45kg and -57kg divisions, respectively.
The Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines took pride in the accomplishments of its athletes.
"To our incredible athletes: we are beyond grateful for the relentless hard work, early mornings, and sacrifices you poured into this tournament," wrote the national federation for the sport on a Facebook post Sunday.
"Every drop of sweat on the mats represents your unwavering dedication to jiu-jitsu. You left it all out there and represented the Philippines with absolute pride!" Jiu-Jitsu Philippines said the national team will next compete at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi, slated from Aug. 6 to 9.
"This is merely a stepping stone. We are incredibly optimistic about the upcoming competitions. The lessons learned here will only fuel our training, and we cannot wait to see this team step into the next chapter stronger, sharper, and more united than ever," said the national federation. "Thank you very much, PSC, for your unwavering support. Next stop, Abu Dhabi for the World Championships! The best is yet to come!”
