
Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old man was fined RM1,500 or a month’s jail for assaulting a man last month.
Sccot Olleronse Akim pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha to voluntarily causing hurt to Tinolojor Madiris, 30, at 5pm on Jan 31 at the quarters of New WK restaurant, Wisma HCS, Jalan Kolam Taman Luyang.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuting, told the court that prior to the incident, the victim was woken by repeated knocks on the door and when he opened it, Sccot pulled his head and hit him repeatedly.
Tinolojor suffered swollen lips and pain in the mouth, ears and head due to the attack, the court heard.
The complainant lodged a police report against Sccot at 8.40pm the same day.
Unrepresented, Sccot requested for a lenient sentence as he is married with three children.
The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.
Meanwhile, another man was jailed 16 months for keeping a stolen car.
Odrick Davester John Kaltus, 28, admitted to keeping a stolen Perodua MyVi belonging to Elizabeth Linus at 12.40pm on Dec 9, 2022 in front of the Speedmart 99 premises, Berungis Commercial Centre, Tuaran.
The court heard from the prosecution that the car was reported stolen from a parking lot on the third floor of the Asia City Complex on Oct 18, last year.
Odrick was arrested on Dec 9, last year, and claimed that he borrowed the car from a friend named Bayau.
Requesting for a lenient sentence, Odrick said he is a divorcee and has a nine-year-old son and promised not to commit similar offence in future.
The court ordered him to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered the car to be returned to the rightful owner.
