An FIR has been registered against a person for allegedly uploading and circulating highly derogatory, abusive, and inflammatory content against Sikh Gurus and the Sikh religion on social media platforms.
Based on a complaint by Ravinder Singh, Manager of Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi 10th, Kapal Mochan, which is managed by Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), a case was registered today against Yash Kumar of Yamunanagar under several sections of the BNS and the Information Technology Act at the Cyber Crime police station, Yamunanagar.
The complainant told the police that the accused had uploaded and circulated objectionable posts on Facebook and other social media platforms targeting Sikh Gurus and Sikh religious beliefs.
He alleged that the posts had hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community worldwide and had the potential to disturb communal harmony and public peace.
He said the respect and sanctity of Sikh Gurus are supreme and non-negotiable in Sikhism, and claimed that the accused deliberately used social media platforms to spread hateful and inflammatory content.
“The publication and circulation of such material through electronic and social media platforms has aggravated the seriousness of the offence, as it reached a large number of people in a short time,” the complainant told the police.
The complainant urged the police to conduct a prompt cyber investigation, preserve electronic evidence, identify linked devices and IP addresses, and remove or block the alleged offensive content from all online platforms.
