
PENAMPANG: Marine police seized fireworks worth nearly RM800,000 in a raid on an unnumbered premises along Jalan Penampang-Papar Lama on Wednesday.
Sabah (Region 4) Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said their Ops Taring Landai Khas team, acting on intelligence, conducted the operation which led to the arrest of two local men, aged 31 and 50.
The seized fireworks and firecrackers were estimated to be worth RM756,600.
A lorry valued at RM75,000 was also confiscated, bringing the total seizure value to RM831,600.
“The duo failed to produce valid permits for storing and selling the fireworks,” he said.
“Our team acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence about the illegal activity. The suspects were storing these dangerous items without authorisation, intending to distribute them here and in Kota Kinabalu.
“The possession and sale of fireworks without a permit is a serious offence under the Explosives Act 1957.
“We will not tolerate such activities as they pose risks to public safety,” he added.
The suspects and confiscated items were handed over to the Penampang District Police Headquarters for further investigation.
