TUARAN: The body of a fisherman missing for five days at the Serusup river mouth in Tuaran was discovered at Kelambu Beach, Kudat, on Friday.
The victim, identified as Husaini Saidin, 34, was last seen heading out to fish before dawn on August 30 and did not return home.
His damaged boat was discovered by family and villagers on the riverbank, prompting a police report and the launch of a search and rescue operation on September 1.
Rescuers, assisted by police and civil defence teams, combed a 15km radius by boat and divers searched waters up to four metres deep.
The search ended at 7.10pm after police confirmed that a body found earlier at Kelambu Beach, Kudat, was Husaini, as identified by his family.
