Tuaran: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a man reported missing while casting nets at the Serusup River estuary on August 30 has entered its third day, with teams continuing efforts to locate him.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohamad Nor Amit said the search area has been expanded, with six teams deployed across various locations.

“Rescue efforts are focused along Sabandar Beach, Impian Beach, the Kg Serusup river jetty up to the estuary, Pulau Gandang, Kg Baru-baru, and the Kg Serusup coastline,” he said Wednesday.

The operation uses four-wheel drive vehicles, boats, and three drones to cover both land and water areas.

Over 25 personnel from multiple agencies are involved, including the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Civil Defence Force (APM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Marine Police Force (PPM). In addition, more than 20 villagers with seven private boats are assisting in the search.

“So far, only the victim’s drifting boat and fishing net have been found. There have been no further leads, but updates will be provided as the operation continues,” Mohamad Nor added.

The fire department received an emergency call at 1.19pm on Monday from the police. The victim was reported missing by his family after he failed to return home from a fishing trip that began at 4.30am on August 30.
