The food safety wing of the district Health Department on Monday collected samples of milk and milk products as part of its ongoing campaign against the sale of adulterated and spurious milk in the district. The campaign is being carried out under the directions of Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Kanwarpreet Kaur Brar, and Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner (Food Safety) Rajinderpal Singh conducted inspections at dairies and milk supply vehicles on the Tarn Taran road. During the drive, officials collected five samples of milk and milk products for testing. These included samples of ‘paneer’, milk and ‘khoya’.
The samples would be sent to a food testing laboratory in Kharar for examination, an official said. Singh warned dairy owners, shopkeepers, and sweets sellers against selling adulterated food products.
He said the department would not tolerate adulteration in the district, and strict legal as well as departmental action would be taken against anyone found violating food safety norms.
Health officials said the campaign would continue in the coming days to ensure the availability of safe and pure food products for consumers during the summer season.
