Five fined, jailed for drink-driving

Kota Kinabalu: Five men were fined a total of RM50,000 and jailed one day each by the Traffic Court, Wednesday, for drink-driving.

Loo Siew Kwang, Andrew Carrol, Andini Velliges, Mohd Hazwan and Dane Eber, aged between 29 and 53, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at separate locations in Penampang.

They were each fined RM10,000 or three months jail and a day’s jail.

Loo and Andrew committed the offence at Jalan Bundusan on Jan 18, last year at 12.20am and 12.10am respectively.

The five requested leniency.

The five were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020 which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fined between RM10,000 and RM30,000.
